A Prayer for Giruminesh

Hi everyone! I haven't posted about many kids in need of sponsors lately, so I figured tonight I would change that :) Normally I post pictures of younger kids needing sponsors--there's nothing wrong with that, and many people usually sponsor children when they are around 3 or 4 years old, but there are many older children and teenagers who are waiting for sponsors as well. So I figured it's time to change things up a bit!

Being a teenager can be hard, regardless of what culture or family situation you come from. I grew up in a Christian home with a very supportive family, a roof over my head, clothes to wear, food to eat...all the necessities of life plus more, but my teenage years were still a difficult time. It is a stage in life where you are trying to figure out who you are as an individual, decide whether or not you really believe in this whole God thing, you face pressure from teachers and peers to decide what you are going to do for the rest of your life...teenagers definitely need lots of love and encouragement! The encouragement I received in my teenage years, specifically high school, changed my whole day. Sometimes it even made my entire week better! So imagine how important a loving sponsor and regular encouraging letters are to teens growing up in poverty.

Today I want to introduce you to Giruminesh.

She is 16 years old and lives in Ethiopia with her mom, dad, and 3 siblings. Her chores include washing clothes and helping in the kitchen. In middle school, her performance is below average. Volleyball is her favourite activity.

Giruminesh is at a stage in her life where love and encouragement, and the prayers of a faithful sponsor, are very important. Please consider adding her to your Compassion family, or making her the very first member of your Compassion family!

If you can't sponsor her, please pray for her. As you read this post, or remember this post, pray that God would keep her and her family safe, that she would make wise choices, and ultimately that she would soon have a sponsor who will be a blessing in her life.

Update from Blanca

Due to the wonderful invention known as modern technology, my parents were able to scan and email me a letter from Blanca that arrived at our house last week. Blanca is my 9-year-old sponsored child in Ecuador. I met her two days after I sponsored her in 2013, when she was 7 years old. It was a wonderful day and I hope to go back to Ecuador someday to visit her again!

The theme of this letter was "What I Like Best". Here are some highlights:

"What I enjoy doing the most with my family is studying the Bible" (awesome!)

"I want to thank you for helping me and supporting me in every area of my life. Thanks for the letters you've sent to me."

"I also want to say I'm doing well with my mom and I got high marks at school." (woohooo! Go Blanca!)

It is easy to see that Compassion is having a huge impact on her life!
